FAQ

If you've got a question about [yellow tail] you've come to the right place. Please see below a list of frequently asked questions (and answers of course).

Packaging

  • How do I open a screwcap?
  • Hold the bottle firmly at the base with one hand and place your other hand entirely around the capsule and twist anti-clockwise.
  • Why do you use screw-caps on [yellow tail] wines?
  • We use screw caps because of our commitment to quality. Screw caps are less susceptive to oxidation and eliminate the risk of cork taint. As an industry, many wines of all types and prices are shifting to screw cap for better quality. Our priority is delivering great tasting wine, so we’re doing our best to ensure you continue to get the fresh, quality wine you’ve come to expect from us.
  • How do I remove the cork closure?
  • You will need a waiter's friend or corkscrew. Use the small hinged knife to cut and remove the foil surrounding the neck of the bottle.

Twist the metal point of the screw through the centre of the cork until the screw is properly embedded. Lock the arm, known as the fulcrum, against the lip of the bottle and lever upwards until the cork is removed.
  • Why does [yellow tail] use a synthetic cork closure instead of real cork?
  • We decided to use synthetic corks for [yellow tail] so that we could deliver our wine to consumers in fresh and optimum condition. Synthetic cork eliminates the risk of bacterial infection in the wine.
  • How do you open [yellow tail] Bubbles?
  • [yellow tail] Bubbles has a resealable closure, allowing you to maintain freshness and fizz for up to four days! For tips on how best to open visit here.

Winemaking and Nutrition

  • Do [yellow tail] wines contain gluten?
  • All [yellow tail] wines are gluten free.
  • Is [yellow tail] wine vegan?
  • All [yellow tail] red varieties are vegan friendly. White varieties are not due to the use of animal products (gelatine) in the fining process. All the gelatine is removed during filtering before bottling.
  • Is yeast present in [yellow tail] wine?
  • Yeast is added to grape juice in order to transform the sugars into alcohol and turn the juice into wine. This is process is called fermentation.

Once fermentation is complete, the yeast is removed before the wine is bottled.
  • Do your wines contain any additives like sulphites?
  • The sulphite levels in [yellow tail] wines are low to medium range. If people are extremely allergic to sulphites, we recommend you avoid the consumption of any wine.

Red wines, such as Merlot, do have lower levels than white wines. Our red wines contain about 70 mg/l and our white wines are approximately 140 mg/l.
  • What’s the shelf life of [yellow tail] wine? When is it best to consume?
  • [yellow tail] wines are produced and bottled to be consumed young and fresh. They are best before two years.
  • How many calories and carbs are in [yellow tail]?
  • For a full nutritional chart, visit [yellow tail] nutritional chart.
  • What food goes well with [yellow tail]?
  • [yellow tail] is created with a simple philosophy in mind - to make a great wine that everyone can enjoy anytime, anyplace, with anything. This is why we’re reluctant to tell you what to enjoy it with. If you really want some suggestions, why don’t you experiment pairing [yellow tail] with non-traditional wine foods like popcorn, ice-cream or pizza? We’d love to hear about your new flavour discoveries on our Facebook page!
  • There is something that looks like glass in the bottom of the bottle. What is it?
  • It is possible that what you are experiencing is naturally occurring sediment known as tartrates. Tartrates are harmless crystalline deposits that form during fermentation and aging. Cold weather can also cause the formation of tartrates. In order to be sure, we check the lot number with our quality control. Please email us at info@wjdeustch.com if you are in the US and info@yellowtailwine.com if you are based outside the US.
